Objection ( Shubha ): Is the Heavenly Call Merely a Dream or a Vision?

Dar al-Hidaya : One of the deceptive claims promoted by followers of Ahmed Ismail (Yamani sect) is that the Heavenly Call (Al-Saiha)—a definitive sign of the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (AJ)—is not a physical event, but rather a dream (ru’ya) or a mystical vision (mukāshafa). This interpretation directly contradicts authentic narrations from the Ahlul Bayt (AS) and aims to falsely validate Ahmad Ismail’s claims.

The Yamani Sect’s Misinterpretation of the Heavenly Call

In his book Fasl al-Khitab, Ahmed Hattab al-Faisali, a supporter of Ahmed Ismail, writes:

“The Heavenly Call will manifest as a dream for those who are asleep and as a mystical vision for those who are awake, both confirming Ahmed’s legitimacy.”

He refers to a narration from Amir al-Mu’minin (AS):

“A cry will be heard in the month of Ramadan, terrifying the awake, awakening the asleep, and causing the young maiden to leave her chamber.”

They argue that because people are awakened by the call, it must be a dream, not an audible event.

Refuting the Dream-Based Interpretation

The interpretation that Al-Saiha is a dream lacks coherence and contradicts numerous authentic narrations. Here are four clear rebuttals:

1. Loud Sounds Wake People Too — Not Just Dreams

The claim that the Heavenly Call is a dream because it “wakes the sleeping” is flawed. Loud, shocking noises—especially a divine call from the sky—can wake people. It is more reasonable to interpret the awakening as a response to a real, external sound, not a subjective dream.

2. Authentic Hadiths Describe Fear and Panic

Multiple narrations describe the Heavenly Call as terrifying and shocking, even to those already awake. Dreams, especially righteous dreams (ru’ya sāliha), do not cause such distress. Therefore, the emotional reaction described in hadiths supports the audible nature of the call, not a vision or dream.

3. The Event Affects Both the Awake and the Sleeping

Hadiths say the call will startle both those asleep and awake. Dreams affect only those sleeping. The universality of the impact confirms that this is a physical, public proclamation, not a personal, inner experience.

4. A Universal Shared Dream is Illogical and Contradictory

Let’s assume—hypothetically—that millions around the world all have the exact same dream announcing a specific person. This would be a global miracle, contradicting the claim that it supports a false claimant like Ahmed Ismail. Rather than confirming him, such a miracle would affirm the truth of Imam Mahdi (AJ).
